Anyone been to Kiribati? How is it pronounced by locals?

Dictionaries show 2 ways to pronounce Kiribati. The CIA World Factbook shows it pronounced as "Kee ree bahss." The opinion of the locals is what's important to me! Yes. Math & Science are everywhere. This is under the geography category, tho.
